The tournament will feature a double round Robin format with 24 matches scheduled throughout the series. The franchise rights for the 5 teams were sold at a whooping 93 million dollars in December 2015 for a period of 10 years. The PSL’s title sponsorship was gained by Pakistan’s Primary bank Habib Bank Limited. The 5 teams and their owners are given below with respective bindings.
- Karachi Kings by ARY Group for $26 million
- Lahore Qalandars by Qatar Oil for $25 million
- Islamabad United by Leonine Global Sports for $15 million
- Peshawar Zalmi by Haier for $16 million
- Quetta Gladiators by Omar Associates for $11 million
The tournament will be hosted in United Arab Emirates with Dubai International Cricket Stadium and Sharjah Cricket Stadium distributing the matches among themselves. Ten Sports bagged the Broadcasting rights in Pakistan for 15 million dollars along with PTV Sports and Sunset +Vine.
The tournament will hold a draft for a total of 308 players with 137 Pakistani players and 171 foreign nationals. The series set to be a huge hit with platinum lists of players including the lights of Chris Gayle, Kevin Pieterson, Shahid Afridi, Kumar Sangakara, Shane Watson and many more. These crowd pulling giant stars will certainly help to make the tournament an instant hit. Also the greats like Chaminda Vaas, Robin Singh, Dean Jones, Michael Bevan etc have signed the deal as the coaches in charge. League’s official theme song “Ab Khel Ke Dikha” is already a huge hit among the youth and everyone in the cricket fraternity is sincerely looking as a big possible boost to cricket in Pakistan.
